About "The Promotion Dilemma"

Updated: Apr 1

The Promotion Dilemma... This story had me in a chokehold most of quarantine. I had spent countless days and nights watching The Office with my brother and falling madly in love with John Krasinski... But hey, who can blame me?

I started the book around March of 2020 and ended up getting distracted with "Intimate" and put this one on hold. I picked it back up in September 2020 when I got assigned to a graduate-level course that my university used as my Senior Seminar. The Senior Seminar could have been an internship for business students and other majors, but I was an English major and had to choose a "senior workshop." I was paired with a professor who previously failed me in a few other classes and struggled to hand out anything other than a C-grade. I was nervous about working with him, but he was a genuinely kind person. I couldn't find myself trying to ask for a different professor because I didn't want to be rude or cause issues. Instead, I took the novel I had already started and made A LOT of adjustments to it to make it better (at least in my opinion).

The assignment was to write a 50k-word novel. I was only able to get about 35k and had to email him around Thanksgiving and ask if that would be acceptable. Luckily, since I was an undergrad that was about all he was expecting from me but didn't want to say that to see how capable I was of finishing the novel. I was thrilled and managed to hack out the word count and turn it in on time. He graded mine second and even announced in an email that he was halfway through mine. By the end of the week, I had a grade, and he emailed me back the story with comments and edits.

Now, did I take all of the edits into consideration? No.

Did I use some of them? Yes.

There was a comment about all of the characters being too young to be in the positions they were in, but I can confirm... at 23 years old and with an English degree, I was a fill-in HR Manager at a company for three months... Anything is possible. I wasn't good at it, but that's not the point.

The point is, I took the story, adjusted a few things, and now it's out for you to read!!!
